DIY Moroccan Spa Hammam at Home
What a pleasure it is to treat yourself to a Hammam to relax and find a soft and satiny skin. This ritual works great at home, follow the steps below to create this wellness ritual in your bathroom.
What is a Hammam?
Hammam means "bathroom" in Arabic, it is also used to talk about the beauty ritual appreciated for its purifying virtues and which helps to detoxify the skin. The steam helps to loosen up tense muscles and open the pores of the epidermis. The black soap and the Kassa glove, used in the Hammam ritual, exfoliate the skin, rid it of its dead cells, and activate blood circulation.
How to prepare a Hammam at home?
It is possible to enjoy all the benefits of the Hammam ritual at home by following 5 essential rules.
1/ Run a very hot bath or shower
The first essential point of a home Hammam is the hot water: it must be very hot and create steam in the bathroom. Only 10 minutes of immersion is enough for the body to relax and the pores of the skin to open.
2/ Exfoliating with black soap
After bathing or showering, on damp skin, exfoliate the body with black soap to remove impurities from the skin. Composed largely of oil and black olive pulp, black soap is ultra-nourishing for the epidermis: it softens and purifies it.
3/ Exfoliate your skin with the Kassa or Loofah glove
After leaving the black soap applied to the body, exfoliate with the Kassa glove for gentle exfoliation of the epidermis. Softer than a horsehair glove, the Kassa glove is made of viscose crepe or tightly woven plant fibers. Rubbing the body with this glove in circular movements activates blood circulation, which restores firmness to the skin and removes dead skin. Your body will feel soft and satiny.
4/ Apply a mask with Ghassoul
After exfoliation, a mask with Ghassoul (pronounced "ghassoul") is ideal. This saponiferous clay with purifying and detoxifying virtues comes in the form of a powder that must be diluted with a little water to create a foam to be applied all over the body and on the hair. After leaving it on for 15 minutes, rinse with lukewarm water.
5/ Massage with Argan oil
To finish the Hammam ritual at home, perform a massage with Argan oil on your dry skin. Thanks to its fatty acids and vitamin E, it will deeply nourish the epidermis, relax the muscles and soften the skin.
After a home Hammam, you will feel more relaxed and softer than ever!
